Saxon-CE will only work with a valid license file. For some usage scenarios, the license is free of charge.
The cost of a license for the Saxon-CE product depends on the size of the organization that owns the domain on which it is deployed and the duration of the license.

The software is free of charge whilst only installed on a local machine i.e. one using
the localhost
hostname.
Before using Saxon-CE in this way, you will need to register so we can send you a license file. The license will expire one year from registration.
If you are a Small Organization deploying Saxon-CE on a domain you own, the software is free of charge for a copy that will expire after 12 months' usage. It can be downloaded using the link on this page.

If you wish to have a perpetual license; i.e one that does not need renewing every twelve months, you can purchase this from our online shop where you will be asked to enter the domain names you wish to use.
To deploy Saxon-CE on a domain owned by a Large Organization you need to purchase a copy from our online shop where you will be asked to enter the domain names you wish to use. You will need one license for each domain.
There are two pricing options, depending on whether you want a twelve-month or a perpetual license.
